It appears driverless cars will be a part of our future, whether we like it or not.

Autonomous cars already exist and we’re told they’ll make our roads safer by eliminating human error.

According to a new survey, Australians are more sceptical about driverless cars than many other countries.

CEO of Australian Smart Communities Association Laurie Patton says the ship has sailed.

“They are indeed inevitable,” he tells Chris Smith.

“What we need to do is to plan for them.”

Laurie admits the computerised cars may glitch and that’s why the transition needs to be slow.

“We need to be very, very careful about the way in which we move toward autonomous vehicles.

“The dangerous period will be in the introductory period when there’s a mixture of people and driverless cars.”
