Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan is calling on universities to adopt a free speech code after instances where the expression of opinions was prevented on campus.

A review into freedom of speech at universities has recommended the education institutions adopt a model code to uphold and protect free speech.

Recently, students at the University of Sydney boycotted the entry of author Bettina Arndt to give a lecture to students who paid to hear her talk.

Mr Tehan tells Ben Fordham freedom of speech at universities is a priority.

“It is absolutely vital that our universities are places where freedom of speech… can take place.

“The future of Australia is dependant on our youth…. we want them to get the academic inquiry that they need to set this nation up for the future.”
