‘Embarrassment to the state’: Former Tennis star challenges Commonwealth Games cancellation
Former tennis star turned politician, MP Sam Groth, has given his opinions on the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Victorian Shadow Minister for Tourism and Sports raised questions about the timeline of alternate projects, and the figures that were published by the Victorian government.
He challenged the government on their lack of accountability, accusing them of playing ‘the blame game’.
“Someone needs to take responsibility for this”, he said.
This comes amidst comments by the Commonwealth Games Australia CEO which stated: “The Victorian Government, however, has jeopardised Melbourne and Victoria’s standing as a sporting capital of the world”.
