‘Emotionally Manipulative’: Miranda Otto discusses new show
Miranda Otto delved into her new TV show, “The Clearing”, and explored the dangers of cults in an interview with Deborah Knight.
The show is based on the true story of The Family, a notorious Australian cult formed in the mid-1960s.
In preparation for the role, she explained her own fascination with cults, saying: “I guess I’ve been doing a lot of research all my life… “.
Otto discussed the vulnerability of cult members even in today’s society, stating: “People are distrusting of government bodies and authority…they’re disenfranchised…”.
She continued: “And that sort of leaves us very open to these very charismatic leaders who come in with, supposedly all the answers”.
