EPA under pressure to DUMP waste price hike
The NSW Environment Protection Authority says it will continue consulting the industry over a plan that would see the price of waste disposal rise by five times the current rate.
The EPA wants to launch a testing crackdown on a growing number of chemicals that are ending up in recycling.
As a result, one skip bin owner said, “the cost of a 3 cubic metre container will go from $440 to $2,100”.
The waste industry has an urgent meeting with the EPA today amid concerns the move would cripple businesses.
Environmental Protection Authority Executive Director David Fowler told Ben Fordham no decision has been made.
“We’ve been talking to the industry for more than six months on these proposed changes.”
