Chris O’Keefe has revealed that Chris Minns and the newly elected NSW Labor Government are set to offer a 4% pay increase for all public sector workers over the next year.

This proposed raise, applicable to teachers, police officers, hospital cleaners, and other public servants, matches the increment previously given by the Albanese federal government. The proposal will be presented to union leaders in a meeting with Treasurer Daniel Mookhey. In practical terms, this pay rise translates to an extra $2,000 per year for a hospital cleaner earning $52,000 annually, or an extra $4,000 for a teacher with a $100,000 annual salary.

Stewart Little, PSA General Secretary, weighed in on the increase expressing a moderate sense of relief and optimism at the news, stating, “It’s really a good starting point. If that’s the figure, you’ve certainly got our attention.”
