EXCLUSIVE | Labor backflips on keeping convicted murderer’s donations, will return entire sum

NSW Labor has backflipped on a decision not to refund $260,000 worth of donations from convicted murderer Ron Medich.

Between 2003 and 2010, the NSW Labor Party received $260,000 in donations from Medich Property Group, a company owned by Medich.

When the donations were uncovered in 2010, the Opposition agreed to hand back the money if Medich was found guilty of orchestrating the murder of Michael McGurk.

Yesterday, Labor said it wouldn’t be refunding the donations, admitting it’d already spent the money.

Now, the party’s backflipped, with NSW Labor leader Luke Foley telling Ben Fordham the entire sum will be paid to charity.

“I won’t have the Labor Party keep a murderer’s money.

“I’ve made it clear as the Labor leader that the sum of this bloke’s donations is to be paid to charity.”

Mr Foley is also calling on the NSW Liberal Party to do the same.

“Neither of our parties should be keeping those sums.

“They ought to do what’s right and Ms Berejiklian ought to make it clear that whatever sums they’ve received from this Medich fellow, who’s now a convicted murderer, will be paid to charity.”

The Liberal Party says they announced the return of money, totaling $3,250, yesterday.
