Farmers in far west New South Wales have been confronted by horrifying sights after a storm lashed the area last week.

Up to 400 kangaroos have been found dead on a property near Broken Hill, killed by a hail storm.

The native animals weren’t the only victims of the event, with $20,000 worth of stock and more than 100 Boer goats also killed.

Farmer David Langford, who operates Ktank Station 30km east of Broken Hill, tells Alan Jones he discovered the devastation on a muster.

“We went down along the road the next morning and we noticed a little bit of damage along the highway,” David says.

“It wasn’t until a few days later when we went to muster the adjoining paddock, we noticed a lot of dead kangaroos.

“Then I sort of put two and two together. We went and checked the paddock where we run our Boer goats and there was quite a large number that hadn’t made it through it.”

David tells Alan it’s a costly storm, with insurance not covering those sorts of incidents.

“It’s part of farming I suppose you’d say.”
