Federal MP backs ‘brave’ plan for east coast high-speed rail network
A Federal Liberal MP has described a plan for an east coast high-speed rail network as “brave and visionary”.
The NSW government has committed to a fast-rail network linking Sydney to regional centres if its elected next year.
The federal government is now looking to support the plan and potentially expand it to include Brisbane and Melbourne.
Liberal MP John Alexander, who is leading a bipartisan federal committee investigation into high-speed rail, has praised NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian for taking on the idea.
He says her initiative is “brave and visionary”.
“This is what people [want], especially after the week we’ve just had in parliament, they’re tired of politicians playing politics.
“They want a vision.”
