‘Final rest, at last’ – Sydney opens its first new cemetery in 85 years

Sydney’s first new cemetery in 85 years officially opened today at Varroville in the city’s southwest.
The Macarthur Memorial Park, developed by the Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria, faced delays and opposition before construction finally went ahead. With 136,000 burial plots and space for over 300,000 ash interments, the $125 million project is a major step in addressing Sydney’s urgent burial space shortage.
