The man accused of deliberately mowing down pedestrians in Melbourne last week has returned to court this morning.

Saeed Noori has been charged with 18 counts of attempted murder and one count of reckless conduct endangering life.

Macquarie Radio reporter Stefanie Waclawik tells Chris Kenny the accused showed no emotion in court.

“The magistrate acknowledged he may be withdrawing from drugs. He urged Mr Noori to accept treatment and he recommended psychiatric staff assess him as soon as possible.”

Psychiatrist Dr Tanveer Ahmed joined Chris to explain Noori’s potential motivations.

“This guy may very well have been paranoid.

“The final action had strong Islamist flavours. It was clearly inspired by past vehicle attacks.”

Noori faces his next court appearance on May 30.
