The prices of meat and produce are expected to rise as bushfires affect rural communities.

Australia’s $122 billion food and grocery sector will be impacted by the fires across the east coast.

But Australian Food and Grocery Council acting chief executive Geoffrey Annison tells Deborah Knight the effects shouldn’t last long.

“I think there will be some price rises, and maybe some spikes, but I don’t think it will go on for an extended period of time.

“We have a great deal of resilience in our supply chains and there’s certainly no shortage of food.”
