Former Test fast-bowler: The ICC are a ‘toothless tiger’
Former Test fast-bowler Craig McDermott has taken aim at the International Cricket Council over the handling of the ball-tampering scandal.
Mr McDermott tells Chris Smith the ICC should step up.
“The ICC, they’re a toothless tiger,” he says.
“You look at the plethora of people who have been caught and the different fines they’ve got, the ICC are all over the place for the want of a better statement.
“They’ve left this purely up to Cricket Australia to see how they can handle it when the ICC have got an enormous role in the game.”
Today, Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland announced Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will fly back to Australia.
Mr McDermott says the cheating was “disgraceful” and the players will return home to disappointment.
“It’s a disgraceful thing that’s happened to the baggy green.
“It’ll be interesting to see what sort of bans Cricket Australia place on those three players and going forward… it’s left cricket in a bit of a mess at the moment.”
