Energy Minister: We’ve done ‘everything possible’ to prevent mass blackouts

Article image for Energy Minister: We’ve done ‘everything possible’ to prevent mass blackouts

Energy and Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg has assured Chris Kenny capital cities won’t experience “dramatic blackouts” this summer.

Three gas-fired power stations have been added to ensure supply.

“The Australian Energy Market operator who are the experts in this field have told government’s they’ve done everything possible to ensure energy supply this summer.

“They’ve ensured there will be sufficient gas to be provided to the generators at times of peak demand.”

They’ve procured an extra 2000 megawatts of power to prevent a city-wide blackout.

“This is a big problem we were left with by Bill Shorten and his Labor mates.

Mr Frydenberg insists his party’s highly-criticised National Energy Guarantee is different to a renewable energy target.

“It does emphasise reliability but if we didn’t do that you would see a repeat of the South Australian horror show right across the country.”
