Further asbestos breach notices for Blue Mountains Council

Safe Work NSW has issued two more prohibition notices to the Blue Mountains City Council for more asbestos mismanagement issues.

The notices come after Ray Hadley revealed senior council staff knew of broken asbestos at the Springwood depot for two weeks, without doing anything.

Following Ray’s chat with Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean last week, more inspectors have been sent to the site and issued further prohibition notices.

Workers tell Ray inspected areas, which have been issued clearance certificates, still contain unsealed asbestos.

Despite the ongoing issues, Minister for Local Government Gabrielle Upton threw the council a lifeline in December last year when she backflipped on a move to suspend them.

Ray isn’t having a bar of it, calling for the Minister to intervene immediately.

“I’m telling you, Minister Upton, this council can’t be trusted.

“They cannot be trusted and you need to intervene and find some bottle in your soul.”
