Trainer Gary Portelli has won his second Golden Slipper with two-year-old Fireburn storming at Rosehill Gardens. 

The filly has been “a work in progress” for some time, described as “very lazy” during most of her training.

Mr Portelli told Ray Hadley the charm of Fireburn is her ability to go to a new level when the colours go on.

“She’s like one of Chris Waller’s white bridles,” he said. “She just comes out of the pack.”

“If she sees the horse she has to run down, she finds a way to get there.”
