Actor Geoffrey Rush’s defamation case against The Daily Telegraph has heard the publisher’s defence case is “dead in the water”.

Mr Rush launched legal action against the publication over allegations he engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct during the production of King Lear.

Mr Rush’s legal team is moving to suppress the publication of the Telegraph‘s defence document.

Macquarie Radio’s court reporter Gil Taylor shares the case details with Chris Smith.

“The Telegraph made some brief submissions saying they don’t actually allege inappropriate behaviour of a sexual nature and it gets back to that article last year.

“As far as Rush’s legal counsel says, the defence at this stage appears extremely weak and in fact dead in the water.”

The matter is expected to return to court on February 19.
