‘Give me a break!’: PC brigade gets ‘ring girls’ replaced by men
Crowds were left outraged after three ‘ring girls’ were removed from a boxing match over the weekend and replaced by men.
Promoters of the fight between Jeff Horn and Michael Zerafa at the Battle of Bendigo replaced the women who were carrying traditional ring cards.
It came after City of Greater Bendigo councillors said women in the role were being objectified and disrespected.
But, the women were brought back in after outrage from the crowd.
Mark Levy says the women should not have been stood down.
“These young women were more than happy to do it… but instead, we’ve had a councillor tell these young women what they can and can’t do, sorry that doesn’t sit well with me.
“What right do these people have to say to young women that they can’t get into a boxing ring… and do what they want to do?
“Rather than have people like this Bendigo councillor saying this is outdated and misogynistic… give me a break!”
