Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes has hit out at Labor MPs criticising the Prime Minister’s comments in regards to children with autism.

When asked about the National Disability Insurance Scheme from a woman who has an autistic son during last night’s leaders’ debate, Mr Morrison said: “Jenny and I have been blessed. We’ve got two children who haven’t had to go through that.”

Shadow Minister for the NDIS Bill Shorten has seized on the remark saying, “every child is a blessing”.

Senator Hughes has a son with autism and told Ben Fordham those who are criticising the comment are “missing the point”.

“Go away! Stop politicising our experience if you’ve never been through it.”
