‘Going backwards’: Director of Master Builders addresses building crisis
The Executive Director of the Master Builders Association NSW, Brian Sedler has addressed the insolvency crisis facing the building industry.
Sedler explained that the building and construction industry has historically experienced a significant number of insolvencies, but that the average rate is now on the rise.
These issues are exacerbated by fixed price contracts negotiated during the COVID period, which did not account for significant rises in materials and labour costs.
“So at a time we’re supposed to be talking about increasing the number of houses being built and created in the hundreds of thousands, we’re going backwards”.
