A Gold coast thug who knocked out a teenager during Schoolies last year has been let off with a slap on the wrist. 

19-year-old Caleb Maraku, who punched Taliesin Tardrew-O’Meara unconscious, has been placed on a 12-month probation with no conviction recorded.

Maraku appeared “remorseful” to the magistrate but left the court smiling, laughing and taking selfies with journalists.

Since moving to Australia from New Zealand six years ago, Maraku has also bragged about beating an Aboriginal man at a train station.

The judge who heard the matter, Southport Magistrate Joan White, has outraged the victim’s family by sparing the perpetrator.

Ms White has been criticised for a string of soft sentences, facing the most police appeals of any magistrate in Queensland.

Maraku could face deportation if he is deemed a risk to the community.
