‘Golden ticket’ for Harrison family in emotional Sydney airport reunion
There were emotional scenes today at Sydney Airport, as it welcomed its first planeloads of Australians returning home for the first time in months.
David Harrison travels between Sydney and Luxembourg for work, but didn’t bank on being stuck in Europe in April this year.
He attempted to get back into Australia via his native New Zealand, but was trapped again when the trans-Tasman bubble burst.
Boarding the plane home at last was “a massive, massive relief,” he told Jim Wilson, ending months of uncertainty.
“When I actually got the ticket it was like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, getting the golden ticket.
“I can finally have Christmas with the family.”
Today he finally got his reunion with wife Jodie, daughter Summer and the family’s new puppy Remy.
“I was looking for Jodie, just searching, searching, then she was there jumping up and down.
“I just put the baggage to the side and just sprinted and grabbed her; it was sensational.”
