Government ‘killing’ small businesses on Sydney Harbour

Small business owners with shopfronts at Circular Quay have been issued an “execution notice”.

Ticket booths, which bring 80% of customers to harbourside attractions, have been labelled “eyesores” by bureaucrats and ordered to be removed.

City of Sydney Councillor Angela Vithoulkas tells Chris Smith the loss of ticket booths will kill tourism on the Harbour.

“The only reason this city exists is because of these small business owners willing to risk everything.

“They won’t have customers, Chris. They will lose their business. It will be gone overnight.”

Angus Campbell, owner of Fantasea Cruising, says his ticket booth is the only access point for his harbourside attraction.

“They want to ‘declutter’ Circular Quay and they think our booths are hiding the fenceline. It’s petty.”
