‘Great news’: Architect relieved Anzac Bridge gantry plan scrapped
The Premier has intervened to stop giant gantries being erected on Sydney’s Anzac Bridge.
The structures were to be used to show electronic road safety signage, but they came under heavy criticism for ruining the ‘simple elegance’ of the structure.
Architect Stephen Pearse told Jim Wilson he is relieved the plans have been scrapped.
“It’s great news, this is a good example of how community feedback can actually work.”
“It’s an iconic structure, it’s a gateway to and from the city, so we really need to protect these items.”
