Greens announce plan to slash military funding
The Greens have announced a plan to reduce defence funding as part of their “policy of peace and demilitarisation”.
The proposal would see military spending reduced in order to increase foreign aid, fight climate change and promote gender equality.
Greens leader Richard Di Natale also accused the major parties of turning Australia into “one of the world’s largest arms dealers”.
But retired Major General Jim Molan says the proposal is made by people who don’t understand the importance of our military.
“This is mind-bogglingly naive.
“We have not seen a more uncertain period of time in our history since the end of the Second World War as we are seeing now.”
