Greens councillor called on to apologise over ‘extreme sentiments’ against police

A Greens candidate for the Inner West council has been exposed for posting anti-police content on social media.

Dylan Griffiths, in a post five years ago, advocated student activists use pepper spray against police, which he now says was ‘just a joke’.

Inner West councillor and mayoral candidate Darcy Byrne told Ray Hadley Mr Griffiths’ response is “not good enough”, calling on the Greens candidate to apologise.

He also called on the current mayor and local Greens leader to condemn the “extreme sentiments”.

“Mr Griffiths is a candidate for public office not a university debating society.

“We’ve just spent two years working hand in glove with police to protect the community during the pandemic.

“Local police deserve our respect, not this level of abuse and threat – it’s just wrong.”
