Greens MP vs Police Commissioner over strip search testimony
Greens MP David Shoebridge is defending his questioning of the Police Commissioner after it was slammed as “an absolute disgrace”.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller was grilled over the anonymised testimony of a music festivalgoer who said a female officer threatened her with a “nice and slow” strip search.
The 28-year-old woman gave evidence at the Coroners Court but her identity was protected by a non-publication order.
Mr Fuller argued the “secret witness” should provide their name in order for him to follow up the allegations.
But Greens MP David Shoebridge tells Ben Fordham the woman is not anonymous and the Commissioner could seek out her identity.
“This is a woman who allegedly suffered a deeply traumatising moment at the hands of the police and she is well within her rights to not have her identity publically disclosed like that.
“He’s got police represented at that hearing… they’re perfectly entitled to get the name, confidentially… and if he hasn’t done that then shame on him.”
