Gerry Harvey: GST on online shopping ‘should have happened ten years ago’
Within three months, Australian online shoppers will be hit with a new tax in a bid to help local retailers.
10% GST will be imposed on overseas online goods from July 1, with the so-called “protectionist tariff” slapped on items worth less than $1,000.
Harvey Norman Chairman Gerry Harvey says it’s been an uphill battle for Aussie companies for years.

“Why would you give a free kick to overseas? It’s obviously not fair.”
