Hacker releases private details of 10,000 Optus customers
The hacker behind an Optus data breach has released the personal details of 10,000 customers.
The Australian Federal Police is investigating claims a hacker demanded a $1.5 million dollars ransom to stop the sale of the stolen data.
Bad news. The Optus hacker has released 10,000 customer records and says a 10K batch will be released every day over the next four days if Optus doesn’t give into the extortion demand. #OptusDataBreach #optushack #auspol #infosec pic.twitter.com/NuGe7Pup8l

Tech expert Trevor Long told Chris Smith the post this morning appears legitimate, threatening to release 10,000 records daily unless the ransom is paid.
“I see the word Medicare 55 times, I see the word passport around 260 times and the word driver’s licence around 3,500 times.”
The hacker has since apologised for the attack in the same forum and indicated they won’t release any more personal details.
