A siege in west Wollongong left a road blocked off as police negotiated with a person inside the house.

Thames St in Figtree was closed off between Princes Highway and the Mall with police advising the public stay away.

No arrests have been made and there is no risk to the public.

Listener Darren tells Ben Fordham he drove past the police operation.
