The NSW government is urging those who own properties in bushfire-affected areas to rent them to families who no longer have a home.

Holiday homeowners are being encouraged to list their properties with local real estate agents to increase the supply of accommodation.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance says it’s been an incredibly difficult time for those affected and this could help them find more suitable temporary housing.

“There’s still hundreds and hundreds of people without power, we’ve got people sleeping in sheds, with neighbours, with friends.

“We’ve got a lot of coastal homes down here and anybody who’s willing to go to their local real estate agent, don’t go and price gouge with your rent.

“Just try and get a family a roof over their head while they try and get their insurance and work out how to rebuild their lives.”

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward is appealing to those with available properties to consider families who are currently living in sheds or tents.

“You’ll get something out of it, but more importantly you’ll house a family that needs it.”
