Western Sydney residents are being warned away from dark-coloured roofs ahead of summer.

Light-coloured roofs reduce the internal temperature in a home by up to four degrees.

Western Sydney University professor Dr Sebastian Pfautsch told Ben Fordham about 90 per cent of people have dark-coloured roofs in the western suburbs which attract heat.

“You will need 50 per cent higher energy costs to actually cool your home down to about 26 degrees.”
