‘An avoidable crisis’: Energy expert slams ongoing gas shortages
A gas expert says there’s one thing the federal government can do to save Aussies money on their power bills.
The price of household gas peeked in NSW at $55 a gigajoule, up from $5 in 2014.
“This is a national scandal,” Ben Fordham declared.
Gas expert Bruce Robertson told Ben gas companies engage in price fixing, even though it’s illegal.
“They just keep the market a little bit starved of gas.
“There is no gas crisis occurring in WA because they can source their gas for $5-$7 a gigajoule.
“The problem needs to be solved by the federal government.
“We are in a true energy crisis and the crisis is driven by gas. It’s not a lack of supply … we need a domestic gas reservation policy that forces down the price of gas.”
