Huge residential development blocked in Sydney’s north-west
The Hills Shire Council has had a win today at the Land and Environment Court, blocking a major residential development on rural land.
Hills Shire Council General Manager Michael Edgar tells Ray Hadley the court has overruled the NSW Department of Planning, blocking the proposed Wirrabara Village seniors living development on Pellitt Lane in Dural.
Ray has been following the case for a while, saying the 15-acre development would severely congest the area.
Mr Edgar tells Ray they’ve had a win this morning.
“We do have an ageing population. Senior living is pretty much permitted in all of your urban zones wherever a house is allowed.
“What was interesting about this one is that it’s actually on land where it would otherwise be prohibited.”
Ray is calling out the growing “urban creep”, and is pushing for the government to step in.
“Five-acre properties close to Sydney are going to become more valuable because they’re in diminishing supply.
“This urban creep, it continues along these roads. There’s got to be a stop to it.”
