Iconic outback pub hits the market
For the first time in nearly forty years, one of the nation’s most beloved pubs has hit the market.
The heritage-listed Birdsville Hotel sits 1600km outside of Brisbane but its remote location hasn’t been bad for business.
It was built 134 years ago and is now an award-winning tourist destination.
The pub last changed hands in 1980 but is now up for sale.
Manager of the Birdsville Hotel Ben Fullagar tells Chris Smith why the current owners are ready to step away.
“It’s been a major part of their life for 38 years and they really have done outstanding things, with not just the tourism around the hotel in the area, but the infrastructure and the branding of the company.
“I guess… they’re just at the stage now where they feel it’s time to hand over the reins to somebody that, hopefully, is as passionate about not just the hotel but outback tourism as what they are.”
The hotel is open to expressions of interest until next month.
