Leading union members in Australia have joined forces to unite “in solidarity with Palestine” amid the ongoing conflict taking place in Israel and Gaza.

A lengthy list of signatures from a wide range of union members representing the likes of the Maritime Union of Australia, National Tertiary Education Union, NSW Teachers Federation, NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association and many others, are all backing the cause.

The opening line of the statement reads: “In accordance with the union movement’s values of peace, justice and solidarity with working people, we are horrified by the current war between Israel and Hamas and the unspeakable bloodshed and violence it has caused. This tragedy is a direct result of Israel’s blockade and siege of Gaza, and of the apartheid and ethnic cleansing it maintains in the West Bank and within its own borders.”
