The creator of the controversial abortion bill says he hopes the main principles will be upheld as the NSW Parliament considers amendments.

Amendments to the bill are being debated in the Upper House after Liberal MPs backed down from a leadership spill.

Independent MP Alex Greenwich constructed the bill and introduced it to the Lower House.

He tells Steve Price amendments to the bill could be debated late into the week.

“I hope that the principles of the bill will be maintained.

“I don’t want any barriers being put up for women who are wanting to access safe and legal abortion and I would say that view is the view of the majority of my colleagues as well.”
