Injured NSW woman made to walk across border after being ‘expelled’ from QLD hospital
A NSW woman injured in a horror crash has been forced to walk across the border after a “disgraceful” experience in a Gold Coast hospital.
20-year-old Phoebe was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with broken ribs, a cracked sternum and internal bleeding.
She wasn’t allowed visitors and nurses would walk past her room to check-in, without stepping inside in order to limit contact.
Phoebe was discharged after 24 hours, put in a taxi, taken to a 7-Eleven on the QLD side of the border and told to walk over the border into NSW.
Three weeks later she was admitted to a Tweed Heads hospital for emergency surgery with further complications.
Her mother, Joanne, told Ben Fordham she had to walk out of the hospital, despite her injuries, to the taxi, with no wheelchair.
“She felt like she was being expelled back to NSW.”
