Inquiry calls for lockout laws to be scrapped
An NSW parliamentary committee report has recommended lockout laws be removed everywhere except Kings Cross.
Earlier this month Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced she wants the 1.30am lockouts lifted in the CBD but to remain in place in Kings Cross.
Keep Sydney Open Campaign Manager Tyson Koh tells Karl Stefanovic he thinks the laws won’t be repealed until New Year’s Eve.
“I think that’s quite a good idea… it’s kind of a symbolic date and I think it will be a great way to bring in a new decade.”

But the controversial Kings Cross is not expected to be included in the overhaul.
Executive Chairman of the Potts Point Partnership Carrington Brigham tells Steve Price businesses in Kings Cross have suffered.
“Some of those businesses would like to have the lockouts completely removed to bring back the foot traffic that we lost in the area… that’s about 80 per cent down from what it was before the lockouts were introduced.”

Former director of the emergency department at St Vincent’s Hospital Dr Gordian Fulde tells Karl the lockout laws have a place in society.
“I think human beings need a little bit of help.
“People who are drunk do dumb things.”
