Legendary Ironman Ky Hurst has made another sporting switch and is about to represent Australia once again.

Hurst has won 30 Australian surf titles, is in the surf life-saving hall of fame, is a multiple Ironman champion and a dual Olympian, having competed in the open water swimming at the 2008 and 2012 Games.

Quite a resume for most, but not enough for Hurst.

In recent years he’s been transitioning to professional sailing, even competing for Oracle Team USA at the last America’s Cup.

Now Hurst is making the switch to represent his nation once again, joining Team Australia for next year’s Sail GP event in Sydney.

He tells Chris Smith sailing isn’t a flash in the pan idea, that it’s actually in his blood.

“My grandfather taught me how to sail,” says Hurst.

“I grew up on the northern beaches and sailed Pittwater for a very long time but certainly not professionally.

“To represent Australia, that’s where it’s at and what you want to do.”
