‘It just defies belief’: Hospitals refuse to vaccinate amputee father
Several hospitals in south-west Sydney have refused to vaccinate a patient desperately begging to be jabbed.
71-year-old Samy George was admitted to Liverpool Hospital two months ago for heart surgery and needed his leg amputated, and has since been transferred to Campbelltown Hospital and then Camden Hospital for rehabilitation.
None of the three hospitals have been able to provide him with a COVID-19 vaccine.
Michael, Samy’s son, hasn’t been able to visit his father in hospital since July 20.
He told Chris Smith he’s been rebuffed or hung up on by hospital staff every time he’s enquired about vaccination, and never given a real reason why patients are unable to get vaccinated.
“As of Friday afternoon, they said that they’re now potentially starting to have a look at it, but it’s a logistical nightmare with the refrigeration.
“I said to them, ‘But you’re a hospital’.
“It just defies belief, to be honest.”
