The Coogee Dolphins President says he is outraged by the decision of Indonesian authorities to grant Bali bomb-maker Umar Patek an early release from prison.

Patek was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 88 Australians, including six people from the Coogee Dolphins.

President Paul Vanni said he couldn’t believe the news, and “his heart goes out” to the victim’s families.

“For these people to be feather-tapped, and released, it’s just a slap in the face to them, it’s also a slap in the face to the people of Australia, and it’s a slap in the face to the way Indonesians … look down on Australia,” he told Jim Wilson on 2GB Drive.

“It’s just an absolute disgrace.”
