‘It’s like a drug’: Reigning Bathurst champ desperate for back to back victories
“This race is arguably bigger than our sport itself.”
That’s what reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Dave Reynolds thinks anyway.
For one weekend every October, the nation’s attention turns towards Mount Panorama in the NSW Central West.
In 2017, Reynolds flew across the line in first place in his Erebus Motorsport Holden Commodore.
He tells Chris Smith the victory has him wanting more.
“It’s the biggest race of your life, it’s the biggest race in Australia and it’s unbelievable to be a part of.
“To win it once is amazing but it’s like a drug you want to keep taking. It’s such a good feeling when you win that race.
“No one really cares about the rest of them. This race is arguably bigger than our sport itself.”
So, can he do it again?
“As long as it doesn’t rain, I think we’re in with a chance. Yesterday it was raining all day and our car wasn’t very good.
“Luke just did a run in the dry and we were the fastest.”
