‘It’s the missing piece’: Liberal MP backs proposed religious freedom laws
Some Liberal MPs have raised concerns that proposed laws won’t protect religious freedoms from being eroded.
The federal government has released draft legislation aimed at protecting people from being discriminated based on their religious beliefs.
The laws are open for community consultation over the coming months, before the legislation is introduced to Parliament.
Government MP Julian Leeser tells Alan Jones people should be able to freely express their faith.
“I think religion has been undervalued and read down when it comes into clash with other protected attributes… sex, race, disability and age.
“It’s the missing piece of our discrimination law and I think this will provide more protection.”
