‘I’ve been waiting for this call’: Ray Hadley and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s united front
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has spoken with Ray Hadley on-air for the first time after a ‘historic’ announcement yesterday.
From December 17, or when 80 per cent of the state’s eligible population is fully vaccinated, unvaccinated people will banned from entering a range of Queensland venues.
“I didn’t want to preempt this, because I’ve been waiting a long, long time for this phone call, [but] we’ve made arrangements with the Queensland Premier to talk to me,” Ray said.
While he has often been at odds with Ms Palaszczuk’s policies, Ray said he applauds the ‘monumental’ decision.
“I’ve been pleading with the NSW Premier personally and publicly to take the stand you took yesterday in saying that there is no respite for people who are unvaccinated.”
Ms Palaszczuk told Ray while it was a tough decision, it was necessary to combat misinformation around vaccines.
“There is some hesitancy out in the community and unfortunately, there’s a lot of misinformation going around.
“That’s why we’re issuing directives to make it mandatory that you have to be vaccinated if you work at certain places, and you have to be vaccinated to go into certain places.
“Australia has the capability of leading the world when it comes to vaccination rates, but we need to get everyone’s vaccination rates up as quickly as possible.”
