Jim Molan has become the most individually voted for politician in Australian political history.

The retired major general was placed in a position deemed unwinnable on the Senate ticket in the federal election.

Mr Molan received around 110,000 votes in New South Wales, below the line, but needed about 400,000 to maintain his seat in the Senate.

He tells Ben Fordham he is committed to those who voted for him.

“The only thing that would be better would be if I stayed in my seat in the Senate.

“I owe an obligation to stand up for what they want to see the Liberal Party for in this mighty state.”

Ben says “to the losers in the Liberal Party who smothered this bloke and pushed him down the ticket, despite his clear popularity in the community, what does that say about you?

“You’re completely and utterly out of touch.”
