A Jindabyne local is urging holidaymakers to drive carefully if they’re hitting the slopes this weekend. 

With the 2022 ski season set to open this long weekend, residents of the Snowy Mountains are bracing for an influx of tourists.

“As a long-term resident in Jindabyne, all I ask is that no matter how confident a driver you think you are or how many times you’ve ‘done the snow’, everyone needs to be careful driving down here and be respectful of our town and others using it,” listener Angelo wrote to The Ray Hadley Morning Show. 

“I’ve lost count of the number of 2WD vehicles that don’t carry chains … when entering the Kosciuszko National Park, with many subsequently getting into a mess, causing lengthy delays to everyone else trying to enjoy their holiday.

“Having a 4WD is by no means insurance against slipping and sliding on the snow. The most common vehicle involved in accidents on the snow is, in fact, 4WDs.”

Angelo shared a photo of a 4WD he has seen overturned in a ditch on the way to Thredbo just this week.

“Please don’t put your family, friends, and others in jeopardy by ignoring this advice.”
