John Barilaro never voiced interest in trade job during meetings, Premier says
The NSW Premier has denied ever hearing John Barilaro express an interest in taking a US trade role after quitting parliament.
A former chief of staff has claimed in an open letter released by the parliament Mr Barilaro was eyeing the job as early as 2019.
Mark Connell claims after a meeting with then-treasurer Dominic Perrottet and Stuart Ayres, where the creation of overseas postings was discussed, Mr Barilaro said the US position was “the job for when I get the f*** out of this place”.
Dominic Perrottet has told The Ray Hadley Morning Show in a statement that at no point during the numerous meetings discussing the establishment of Global NSW did Mr Barilaro express an interest in potentially taking such a position:
“The former deputy premier, Minister Ayres and I had numerous discussions in 2019 in relation to the establishment of Global NSW and at no point in any of those discussions was it ever raised that the former deputy premier may want to hold a position as a trade commissioner.”
