Judgement delay sought in Ben Roberts-Smith’s case
The Commonwealth has urged for a delay in releasing the written judgement in Ben Roberts-Smith’s defamation case.
The intention behind this surprising move is to ensure no accidental disclosure of sensitive national security information.
This appeal might also postpone the scheduled summary reading of the judgment by Federal Court Justice Anthony Besanko.
The requested delay is until 2pm, June 5, at the latest, but if the Commonwealth gives its consent, the judgment reasons could be released sooner.
“Roberts-Smith’s legal team has indicated they would agree to these orders,” said a close source, adding that “the newspapers have expressed their non-consent”.
UPDATE: The request has not delayed the delivery of the summary which is currently underway.
