‘Juicy role’ in Jagged Little Pill returns Natalie Bassingthwaighte to her roots
Alanis Morissette’s musical Jagged Little Pill is now showing at Sydney’s Theatre Royal, and a second season is on sale for 2022.
Leading lady Natalie Bassingthwaighte plays drug-addicted mother Mary Jane Healy, and told Joe Hildebrand it’s a “juicy role”.
“There are some really heavy topics … but it is really a show about healing and about heart, and about being vulnerable and letting go, and acknowledging our weaknesses.
“Everybody I know … has just been quite blown away by it, we’re getting standing ovations nightly.”
The show is a return to form for Bassingthwaighte, despite being most known for Rogue Traders and her solo career.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I started in musical theatre.
“My first show was Rent at the Theatre Royal … which is just crazy to think about, 23 years ago!”
